The distillate is collected in a disposable trap, and does not require the use of a chiller or water lines. The sample boils in the glass boiling tube, and the gas is pulled by vacuum into the trap where it is collected. A hydrophobic porous frit in the trap prevents solution from flowing back into the boiling tube. When complete, the trap is removed and the contents are ready for analysis Simple!
