In agriculture the Reflectoquant test strips can be used to measure the ammonium nitrogen content of various types of manure and compost after sample preparation. Ammonium ions react with a chlorinating agent to form monochloramine. This in turn reacts with a phenol compound to form a blue indophenol derivative that is determined reflectometrically on the RQfle x . For pre-testing a sample in an economic and quick way to estimate the ammonium concentration and a possible dilution factor prior to using this quantitative method we recommend our semi-quantitative MQuant test strips for ammonium. Further quantitative determination methods can be found with our Spectroquant tests.
